NOVEMBER 2017 MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES
Share |

November offers us the reminder of being thankful; thankful for our family, friends, and other loved ones; thankful for the many blessings life brings us; thankful we live in a country where we have the right to vote; the list goes on and on!

ENJOY is the word of the month. I know, you thought it would be THANKFUL, right? To fulfill our purpose in life, we need to take a step back and make sure we are enjoying it first. True enjoyment comes from experiences that are fulfilling — making a difference in the lives of others, while being true to what we want in our life. Are you doing things that bring you enjoyment and are you playing an active role in your life’s story, or are you sitting on the sidelines watching it go by?

Enjoy what life offers you with no parameters; no restrictions; no thought of “what’s in it for me”. Enjoy the chance to give back to those around you and connect with the wonderful members of Leadership Oklahoma!

INVEST IN LOK

It’s not too late to pay your annual membership! As a reminder, your annual investment is $150 (in state), $25 (out-of-state), or $2,500 for a lifetime membership. LOK is continuing the three-payment options to become a lifetime member. Option 1: one-time payment of $2,500. Option 2: four quarterly payments of $625 (beginning July 1, 2017). Option 3: eight quarterly payments of $312.50 (beginning July 1, 2017).

By renewing your membership, you are investing in the mission of LOK; investing in Oklahoma; investing in the youth of our state; investing in educating our leadership; investing in networking/social opportunities to provide that human connection.

Class I has proven that it’s never too late to be a lifetime member; three of them paid for lifetime memberships last few years!

Click here to renew today! If you need assistance, call the LOK office and staff can help.

BEST CLASS EVER

Building off last year’s challenge, the LOK Ambassadors will be sending letters to classmates regarding LOK’s $30 in 30 days’ end-of-year campaign. You will receive the letter mid-November. Once again, there are a couple of ways to become the BEST CLASS EVER: (1) Number of classmates participating in the challenge, and/or (2) Dollar amount raised by each class.

So, don’t delay when you receive it in the mail. If interested, fill it out and return the pledge card to LOK. It’s that simple!

Challenge. Accepted.

What has lead us to where we are today? Politically, we are more polarized than any time in history. As citizens, voter apathy tops the list as well. The overall discussions with each other, regardless of topic, is one of “I’m right, you’re wrong” and actively listening to other viewpoints to reach a common perspective has drastically diminished. At the end of the day, we can agree to disagree, but civility is needed now, more than ever. How we receive information is a big game changer – from social media to bloggers to 24/7 news media for the far right/ far left. And let’s not forget the fake news floating around causing even more discourse between us.

Panelists include Leslie Osborn, Class XXVII, State Representative, District 47; Susan Paddack, Class XVI, former State Senator, District 13 and currently Executive Director, The Okla’ Institute; Sue Ann Arnall,  Class XXIV and Lifetime Member, President, Arnall Family Foundation; Mike Jackson, Class XXIII and Lifetime Member, Executive Vice President, Government & Political Affairs, State Chamber of Oklahoma; and Ted Streuli, Class XXIV, Editor & Associate Publisher, The Journal Record.

Register to attend this event and hear conversations and perspectives from different vantage points on what it means to be an informed citizen in a democracy and how each of us has a role to play in changing the dialogue. As LOK members, we strive to look at all sides of an issue. During our class sessions, we build trust and have those discussions with each other. How we teach others to have that mind set and, in turn, creating a culture of change starts with us.

HELPING OKLAHOMA RECOGNITION PROGRAM

www.helpingoklahoma.com

"Helping Oklahoma" is a program developed to further Leadership Oklahoma’s mission to create, inspire and support leaders whose commitment to service energizes Oklahomans to shape our state’s future. It is designed to recognize Oklahoma volunteers who go above and beyond to make a difference in their communities and/or Oklahoma.

This is your opportunity to nominate a volunteer in your community who makes the kind of positive difference that deserves to be recognized. If selected as the winner, your nominee will receive a $2,500 prize to be donated to the charity of his/her choice.

The contest continues to evolve with the ultimate goal of honoring the everyday citizen for having a servant’s heart. The honoree will be recognized at the February 21, 2018 Spring Summit in Oklahoma City.
