Vision 20/15:  The Year to Perfect Education in Oklahoma
Conversation with State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister

January 26, 2015
12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM)
1141 North Lincoln Blvd.
Oklahoma City, OK 73104
LOK Members and guests
Cost:  $15 a person for lunch

LOK members and guests are invited to hear from State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister outline her agenda for the year, her long term vision, and what we can do together to help Oklahoma achieve the educational goals.  There are many challenges in education right now, from teacher shortages to what the state’s educational standards will look like.  An opportunity for question and answer time will end the event.  Lunch will be provided.  A tour of OSSM led by student volunteers will be available to those wishing to stay afterwards.

The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) was created through legislative action in 1983 and graduated its first class of 44 seniors from across the state in 1992.  It is designed as a two-year residential public high school for academically gifted students in mathematics and science.  The dormitory accommodates 144 students, or approximately 72 juniors and 72 seniors.  The dormitory is being expanded and will house an additional 144 students for a total of 288 students.

The mission of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics is to foster the educational development of Oklahoma high school students who are talented in science and mathematics and show promise of exceptional development through participation in a residential educational setting emphasizing instruction in science and mathematics, to develop, evaluate and foster science and mathematics instructional programs, and to serve all schools and students of Oklahoma through research, teacher training and outreach activities.
